Quiet Night Thoughts / 静夜思 / Jìng Yè Sī (2022)

Hand built ceramic pot with Tang Dynasty Li Bai's poem "Quiet Night Thoughts" and "我叫纪兰。" (my name is ji lan) written on the inside. Meant for holding space or holding things.

Inspired by family, roots, and places that were/are home--Pau Po who moved from Vietnam to Laos where he met my grandmother. Pau Pau who fled from China to Vietnam to Laos to New York to a home that she lives in today (where my mother once lived and where I once lived).

床前明月光
疑是地上霜
举头望明月
低头思故乡

Before my bed there is a pool of moonlight
It seems like frost on the ground
I raise my head and look at the bright moon
Bowing my head I think of home.

Chuáng qián míng yuè guāng

Yí shì dìshàng shuāng

Jǔ tóu wàng míng yuè

Dītóu sī gùxiāng
